Open tournament

What a weekend we had on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September, the sun was shining brightly and the weather was nearly perfect for the big golfing weekend at Kilmore Golf Club.  On Saturday both the Men’s and the Mixed 4BBB Stableford competitions were held, followed on Sunday by the Men’s Open Tournament. The majority of players were Kilmore Golf Club members, but there were many from the surrounding area and from other clubs.

Saturday saw 10 Men’s teams & 12 Mixed Teams take to the course.  Clear winners in the Men’s event were the KGC pairing of Nick Wogan & Tony McGregor on 43 points with Shane Culpin & Rob McDonald (of Broadford Golf Club) 2nd on 40 points.  The mixed event was far more hotly contested with only 1 point separating 5 teams.  We are sure that every member of those 5 teams can think of a number of ‘if only’ shots!!  Second on 42 points were the teams of Jill Banon & Merv Schadendorff and Cheryle Anderson & Ron Campbell.  This left three teams tied on 43 points. Congratulations to the winning teams of Helen Clancy & Cyril Anderson (1st), Sophie Banon & Rob McFadden (2nd), Andrea & Mark Boland (3rd).  There were NTPs on all Par 3s and Drive & Pitch on 1st and 8th holes.  A great bevy of prizes to be had and awarded.

On Sunday the Men’s Open saw a field of 32 players take to the course. Both A Grade and B Grade were decided on a countback.  A Grade Winner was Chris Biffin from Justin Ryan – both with nett 72.  B Grade Winner was Mick Roberts on a countback from James Boland (both nett 67) – excellent scores by both of these people.

As with many events there are lots of people that pitched in to help and ensure the success of the weekend.  The golf course is playing extremely well, with a mountain of volunteer work getting it into the best condition possible for the weekend. The committee also want to thank all the other volunteers for their work in administration and in the kitchen on the day.
